The Marion County Sheriff's Office investigates all crimes that occur within the unincorporated areas of the county. The Sheriff's Office has divided the county into 14 districts based on geography, population and highway access. A detective is assigned to each one of these districts and they investigate property crimes, such as Burglary and Theft, that occur in their district. Being assigned to a specific district allows the detective to become acquainted with the residents, and to follow specific crime trends within their neighborhoods and communities. The property crimes detective works under the supervision of the District's respective commander. Deputy Sheriffs that patrol the district also work closely with the detectives so that information can be shared freely. The detectives from each district meet once a month to share intelligence on cases they are working or leads they have developed, to maximize the number of cases solved and brought to closure for the citizen. The hard work displayed by the property crimes detectives is yet another reason why the Marion County Sheriff's Office is a premier agency.
