The Terrorist Intelligence Unit investigates all acts of international and domestic terrorism that occur in Marion County or that have a clear link to Marion County. The Sheriff and each members of the unit have top secret security clearances which gives them immediate access to classified information from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Office of Statewide Intelligence (OSI). A member of the unit is assigned to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) whose primary missions is to prevent a terrorist attack on the United States and their interests abroad. The FBI JTTF has been designated by the President of the United States as the Lead Federal Agency (LFA) in the war on terrorism. Having a member on the FBI JTTF provides the Sheriff and his senior staff the immediate access to real time, up to date, classified, secure and reliable information on the current state of the Nations fight on terrorism.
The Crime Analysis Unit is responsible for tracking crime trends and patterns and making this available to the district commanders in an effort to solve crimes and apprehend criminals. Information obtained by the Crime Analysis Unit is also used in determining staffing needs in the various districts. Crime mapping is also provided by this unit. They are also responsible for pawn ticket entries which are an important part of property crimes investigations.
