Welcome to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Internal Audit Division.

Hi, my name is Jeremiah Powell and I’m the Internal Auditor of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. I was the external auditor of the Marion County Sheriff’s office for several years and joined the Agency in 2005. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University and I am currently working on obtaining my MBA.

The object of Internal Audit is to strengthen controls, improve efficiency and ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies and procedures. There are three facets of internal auditing; operational, compliance, and financial. Operational auditing focuses on reviewing Agency processes and improving efficiency. Compliance auditing ensures that the Agency is in compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures. Financial auditing ensures that the agency is in compliance with applicable accounting standards.

Internal Audit discloses findings, and prepares recommendations for improvement and meets with management concerning these audit findings.

Financial matters are only one aspect of Internal Audit. Internal Audit is broad based and covers all of the activities within the Agency. Internal Audit pursues cooperative relationships in order to improve the Agency’s operations.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and learning about the Sheriff’s Office and its staff. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,
Jeremiah Powell
Internal Auditor
