OCALA: The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, January 19, 2007 from 8:00 PM to Midnight in the vicinity of the 15900 Blk East SR 40 as part of the Florida DUI Sustained Enforcement Program.
The goal is to save lives through the use of high visibility DUI enforcement operations. The sustained enforcement campaign theme is “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.”
There were 70 people killed in traffic crashes in Marion County in 2006 with 17 of those being alcohol related. Although this is down from 109 fatalities in 2005, we are committed to reducing those numbers even further. The Sheriff’s Office conducted 21 sobriety checkpoints in 2006 along with several other patrols dedicated to DUI enforcement. We believe that this increased enforcement, together with greater public awareness, has contributed to the decrease in traffic fatalities.
If you plan to drink, arrange to use a designated driver, public transportation, or a taxi. Remember, if your breath alcohol level is “Over the Limit,” or you are impaired, you’ll be “Under Arrest.”
