OCALA: Deputies responded to the Microtel Inn & Suites, 1770 SW 134th Street, at approximately 11:00 PM Thursday, May 25. The night shift clerk called 911 after a man entered the front office and demanded money.
The clerk told deputies that a black male approached the counter holding a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. When told there was no money, the suspect pulled the trigger but the gun did not fire. The suspect attempted to reload the weapon and fire again. When the gun did not discharge for the second time, the clerk grabbed the weapon and a struggle ensued. The suspect gained control of the gun and run out of the office to a vehicle waiting in the parking lot. The clerk followed and was able to rip the temporary tag off the vehicle as it drove off. The temporary tag contained a vehicle identification number which showed a Lakeland address.
The suspect who entered the office is described as dark skinned with a medium build. He stood about 5'11" and weighed 160 lbs. He was wearing a black knit cap, black long sleeve t-shirt with dark colored pants, white gloves and a black scarf covered his face.
The driver was described as a black male with dreadlocks and also had his face covered.
The vehicle is a gold colored Cadillac with tinted windows and damage to the left front turn signal and bumper.
