This morning, a local attorney was detained by a bailiff at the Marion County Judicial Center. As soon as the Marion County Sheriff’s Office administration was made aware of the incident, the attorney was immediately released.
The attorney was apparently sitting in an area designated for inmates attending court. The bailiff asked the attorney to move. The attorney moved to another area, but into another designated area for inmates. Again, the bailiff asked the attorney to move. As the attorney was leaving the courtroom, apparently upset with the request to move, he was told (by the bailiff) he was being detained.
Bailiff Anthony Riggins has been suspended with pay, until an internal review is completed.
