The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Ocala Police Department, with the assistance of the Belleview Police Department, have arrested and charged two men with several robberies in Marion County. One of them, Craig Broughton, was also charged with conspiracy to commit a robbery at the Regions Bank in Belleview which was reportedly planned for today.
Detectives believe Broughton is responsible for five armed robberies since 10-28-09, when he reportedly robbed the Compass Bank located at 2620 SW 19th Avenue Road, Ocala. Then, on 11-06-09, he entered the Save-A-Lot at 1926 E Silver Springs Blvd. armed with a semiautomatic handgun and took money from the cash register.
On 11-09-09, Ocala Police Officers responded to the Gem Galleria at 2701 SW College Road in reference to an armed robbery. The suspect reportedly took money from the cash register and a ring. The store owner and an employee provided a description of get-away vehicle which was later spotted on 11-10-09. Detectives interviewed the driver, Corey Myers, who denied any involvement in the robbery.
At 7:26 p.m. on 11-10-09, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an armed robbery at the Red Roof Inn at 120 NW 49th Avenue.
