Hello, I am Lieutenant Dennis Chesser, Commander of the Sheriff's Northeast District.
The Northeast District covers approximately 344 square miles and while this is almost 22% of Marion County, there are fewer than 15,000 full time residents. The district includes the communities of Burbank, Gooski Prairie, Orange Springs, Fort McCoy, Eureka, Hog Valley, Cedar Landing, Lake Delancy, Buckskin, Salt Springs, Ponderosa, Sportsman’s Haven and Yellow Bluff.
A large portion of the Northeast District is within the Ocala National Forest and we have many visitors throughout the year who are here to enjoy the recreational opportunities associated with the Forest. There are numerous areas to hunt, fish, hike and ride ATV’s. Information about regulations pertaining to these and other activities in the Forest can be obtained from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission @ www.myfwc.com or the United States Forest Service @ www.fs.fed.us.
The Northeast District is currently staffed by eight Patrol Deputies, one Property Crimes Detective and our District Secretary, Ms. Judy. The district office is located at 25056 NE Hwy 316 in Salt Springs, just west of SR 19 on CR 316. Our office is open Monday thru Friday, 8AM-5PM, excluding holidays. Should you have an emergency or need to speak to a deputy during a time when our office is closed you can reach our communications center at 911 or 732-9111, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Whether you are a full-time resident or just visiting for the weekend, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is here to serve you.
