Drug Enforcement Division

 

The Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Team (MADET) is comprised of agents from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Ocala Police Department. Their focus is on mid-level and street-level drug transactions. MADET also investigates prostitution and gambling complaints.

The Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Team uses multiple tools in the suppression and apprehension of individuals violating drug, prostitution and gambling laws. The Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Team conducts search warrants, controlled narcotics transactions, marijuana eradication missions, buy busts operations, drug reverse operations, drug sting operations, and prostitution stings. In 2009, MADET agents handled 908 drug cases, 132 vice cases and 280 other law enforcement cases resulting in 631 felony arrests and 217 misdemeanor arrests. In 2010, MADET agents handled 951 drug cases, 90 vice cases and 84 other law enforcement cases resulting in 795 felony arrests and 167 misdemeanor arrests.

The Unified Drug Enforcement Strike Team (U.D.E.S.T.) is administered by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and is an initiative that is part of the North Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (H.I.D.T.A). This initiative is supervised by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and is comprised of agents from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Ocala Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The main goal of this unit is to reduce distribution and importation of narcotics in Marion County. The agents work long-term investigations focusing on upper level drug trafficking organizations and money laundering operations.

UDEST significantly impacts drug trafficking organizations by employing a number of investigative techniques to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations. In 2009, U.D.E.S.T. seized 31.3 kilos of cocaine, 1,957 marijuana plants, 863.5 pounds of commercial grade marijuana, 3.1 kilos of methamphetamine, $209,942 in U.S. currency and drug assets. In addition to the seizures, agents targeted 9 drug trafficking organizations, dismantled/disrupted 9 drug trafficking organizations, arrested and referred 93 felony drug violators for prosecution, dismantled 43 indoor marijuana grow houses, investigated/dismantled 9 clandestine methamphetamine labs and worked 5 wiretap investigations. In 2010, UDEST seized 1.82 kilos of cocaine, 273 marijuana plants, 82.4 kilos of commercial grade marijuana, 3.5 kilos of methamphetamine, 7,122 prescription drugs, $618,350.00 in U.S. currency and drug assets. In addition to the seizures, agents dismantled/disrupted 10 drug trafficking organizations, arrested and referred 151 felony drug violators for prosecution, dismantled 16 marijuana indoor grow houses, eight methamphetamine labs and worked 12 wiretap investigations.
