Q: What is your e-service e-mail address?

Q: How do I serve deputies with subpoenas to testify in court or at depositions?

A: Subpoenas must be served as provided by Florida Statutes and the rules of court procedure applicable to that case. In criminal cases, subpoenas/notices for discovery depositions may be served electronically, as provided by Fla. R. Crim. P. 3.200. Please see the specific instructions by clicking here.

Q: How do I have an inmate transported from the jail to the courthouse for court appearances?

A: If you are an attorney, we will accept inmate transport requests electronically. Please see the specific instructions by clicking here.

Q: How do I make a public records request?

A: To ensure that records requests are completed in an efficient manner, we ask that you make public records requests pursuant to the instructions found here.

Q: How do I apply for a U-Visa?

A: U-Visa requests and all pertinent documentation should be submitted by mail to the Legal Services Division, PO Box 1987, Ocala, FL 34478. After reviewing the materials, you will be advised of a decision in writing. 

Q: I wish to do business with the Sheriff’s Office. Is there anything I need to know?

A: Persons doing business with the Sheriff’s Office may be required by Florida law to use e-Verify, must comply with certain public records laws, and may not be a scrutinized company who boycotts Israel or who does certain business with Sudan, Iran, Syria, or Cuba.

Q: Can I ask you a question about whether a proposed course of conduct violates the law?

A: No. The attorneys are unable to provide legal advice to the public. If you require legal advice, the Florida Bar provides an attorney referral service which may be contacted at (800) 342-8011 or accessed by clicking here 

Q: Do you allow for people to volunteer with the Legal Division?

A: Due to the nature of the work handled by the Legal Division, we do not accept volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with the Sheriff’s Office, you can learn more about volunteering with the Sheriff’s Office by clicking here.

Q: Do you allow for internships or externships?

A: Although we do not have an established internship or externship program, we would consider accepting interns/externs who are enrolled in law school. Please contact the Legal Division if you would like to discuss the prospect of an internship or externship with us.
